Still Life / Ceramics
This project began with working in clay but gradually evolved into a still life exploration.
Inspired by the texture and color of the clay, I started not only making vessels but also documenting the various stages they undergo. I approach creating still life images with the same care and intention that I bring to my ceramics.
All of my ceramics are handbuilt using simple tools, moulds, and my hands alone. This minimalist approach is reflected in the forms and finishes of each piece.
To deepen the connection to the earth, I often leave the exteriors raw or decorate them with natural earth pigments and clay slips, which I source locally in Devon and prepare in my studio. This process gives my work a beautifully imperfect texture that’s both rough and highly tactile.
For the still life images, I rely solely on natural lighting and colours that complement the earthy tones of the clay.
In the end, this project isn’t just about the final object, but about the process and the beauty of minimalism.
